About Us
Meet the Founders
Ioannis Angelopoulos and Markos Thiraios are the visionaries behind Alpha Tango Yachts, combining a lifelong passion for the sea with unparalleled expertise in naval architecture. Their journey began in Glasgow, where the two met at university, instantly became best friends—and even flatmates. Sharing a flat filled with sketches, blueprints, and dreams, Ioannis and Markos often designed boats together, imagining the day they would build their own brand and craft their own vessels.
Ioannis Angelopoulos
Co-founder Naval Architect & Marine Engineer BEng, MYD
Ioannis grew up on Hydra Island, surrounded by the sea from the very beginning. Introduced to boating and sailing by his father at just three years old, he spent his childhood observing how different boats navigated varying sea conditions. For Ioannis, the sea became a lifelong passion, and boats the perfect way to stay connected to it. He has hands-on experience working in Greek shipyards as a designer, project manager, and engineer, giving him deep insight into the boat-building process. Ioannis also runs a chartering company, spending countless hours at sea in all conditions—knowledge he skillfully integrates into his designs.
Markos Thiraios
Co-founder Naval Architect & Marine Engineer BEng, MSc, Certified HAZMAT Expert
Markos grew up in Piraeus, one of Greece’s most historic maritime hubs, under the guidance of his father, a Naval Architect with nearly 40 years of experience. Surrounded by shipyards, ports, and active marine projects, Markos was immersed in the world of ships and engineering from an early age. At just 15, he began learning the craft firsthand, assisting in real projects and absorbing the principles of shipbuilding, naval architecture, and marine systems directly from practice rather than theory alone.
This early exposure gave him a rare combination of deep technical understanding and practical problem-solving ability. Over the years, Markos developed a strong appreciation for how design decisions translate into real-world performance, safety, and build quality. His upbringing shaped a disciplined engineering mindset, allowing him to bridge the gap between concept design and construction reality. Today, he brings this foundation into every project, ensuring that each vessel reflects not only sound naval architecture, but also decades of accumulated hands-on knowledge and shipyard experience.
Together, Ioannis and Markos combine exquisite Naval Architecture with real-world experience at sea, creating aluminium boats that are not only expertly engineered but also perfectly suited to the demands of those who truly live on the water. Their partnership brings together vision, craftsmanship, and a shared passion for the sea—ensuring every boat reflects their dedication, knowledge, and love for boating.
Our Vision
The vision behind Alpha Tango Yachts is to produce robust aluminium boats built to commercial standards, with an emphasis on performance and a high-spec finish. Every boat is designed and engineered from scratch, entirely in-house—from the hull and structural analysis to the deck layout. We constantly push the boundaries to achieve the perfect balance of weight, robustness, hull performance, and ergonomics—delivering a result that leaves boat enthusiasts everywhere amazed.
Our love of the sea, combined with a desire to create the ultimate boating experience, drives us to craft vessels that embody innovation, luxury, and meticulous attention to detail. Every boat we build reflects our commitment to excellence, marrying cutting-edge engineering with a passion for the sea.
Why Aluminum
Aluminium’s naturally low weight gives our boats exceptional agility and efficiency. A lighter hull allows quicker acceleration, faster planing, and improved fuel economy with less horsepower. The reduced weight also makes transport, launching, and maneuvering easier, offering a responsive and enjoyable experience on the water.
Aluminium boats offer exceptional structural strength thanks to their densely spaced internal reinforcements. Unlike fiberglass, which relies on large unsupported sections that can crack under stress, aluminium construction uses a network of closely positioned frames and stringers. This results in far smaller unreinforced areas throughout the hull. The outcome is a vessel that is up to 40% stiffer than comparable fiberglass boats, delivering superior robustness, reliability, and long-term structural integrity—even in demanding marine conditions.
Marine-grade aluminium offers outstanding protection against corrosion, including in saltwater environments. This natural resistance significantly extends the vessel’s lifespan and preserves its structural integrity over time. Because aluminium boats age gracefully and remain structurally sound for decades, they also retain their resale value better than many alternatives.
Thanks to aluminium’s inherent resilience, upkeep is minimal. There is no need for gelcoat repairs, waxing, or extensive refinishing—routine rinsing and basic care are usually all that’s required. With fewer maintenance demands and reduced long-term repair costs, aluminium boats offer excellent overall cost efficiency throughout their service life.
Aluminium is fully recyclable and can be reused repeatedly without losing quality, making it one of the most sustainable materials in modern boatbuilding. Its long service life reduces waste, and the ability to recycle the material at the end of its use further minimizes environmental impact—allowing owners to choose a boat that performs well while supporting responsible manufacturing practices.
Our boats are handcrafted without the limitations of molds, every vessel offers exceptional flexibility in design. This approach allows layouts, features, and configurations to be tailored precisely to each customer’s needs—whether for recreation, fishing, commercial use, or specialized professional applications. From deck arrangements to storage solutions and functional add-ons, aluminium construction makes customization straightforward, giving owners a boat that truly fits their lifestyle and purpose.
